Scalp Exfoliation

Why Scalp Exfoliation?

This is a question that I am asked about frequently. Many women and men wonder why it is so important to exfoliate our scalps. We never did it before in the past, and most people haven’t heard of or have just recently been introduced to the treatment. I hope to be able to give you some insight as to why this treatment should be administered to everyone, especially women with chemically treated hair. I’m going to take us back for a moment to see why today it is vitally important to exfoliate our scalps.

Did you know that at the turn of the 20th century, the average African American woman’s hair was 12 to 14 inches long and quite healthy? Yet at the turn of the 21st century, it is 4 to 6 inches long, dry, thin, breaking and balding. What do you think caused such a dramatic change? We know about health and what keeps our bodies running at optimum potential more than ever before. What is the problem? I’ll tell you, CHEMICALS AND SYNTHETIC MATERIALS. In the 1970′s chemical relaxers and colors were widely introduced to the African American public for salon and at home use. Over years of using chemicals and products with synthetic materials, product buildup appears on the scalp. This buildup causes many problems. First, it puts a coating over the scalp and shows up as scales on the surface of the scalp. Most people assume that it is dandruff, and use anti-itch products that contain antiseptics that are drying to the scalp and full of synthetic materials that continue the cycle. Second, this buildup causes a blockage to the hair follicle that houses the hair strand. When the hair follicle is blocked, it makes it more difficult for the hair strand to grow, chokes the life of the hair, and causes balding and thinning spots. Third, it blocks vital vitamins and nutrients from penetrating the surface of the scalp that keeps hair shiny and healthy. A lot of people believe that using “hair grease” on the scalp will control the problem. Not true. “Hair Grease,” contain lanolins, waxes, and parabens that have very large molecules. These large molecules makes it impossible to sink through human skin, sit on the surface of the scalp, and just cover up the problem without actually solving it.

This buildup is not always visible to the naked eye; Some time ago, I was speaking to another stylist whose client is a Mortician. She told me that when someone dies, and it does not appear as natural causes, an autopsy is conducted. Apparently, a special light is used to look at the surface of the skin to make sure there were no foreign chemicals used on the skin to cause death. I was shocked to find out that just about all African American women have a microscopic coating over the surface of their scalps that have not been removed. What is this coating? Product and chemical buildup.

The Hair Care Company has developed the Scalp Exfoliating System especially to combat this problem. Exfoliating the scalp can remove product buildup, strengthen hair roots, wake up dormant hair follicles, stimulate blood circulation, and eliminate toxins.
